Multitasking: the way to achieve your goals

Time and again, there have been three items that have repeatedly appeared on any list that I make for new goals. These are new aspirations or new habits that I want to develop in my life, and maintain as well.

These three things are:

  1. To Exercise more
  2. To Educate myself more
  3. To walk my dog more regularly

I am sure that many of you reading this article will agree with me that a common goal in our modern culture is more exercise and often more education or to learn something new.

Unfortunately, these three things seem to go to the bottom of my priority list. If I am busy then I do not go for a walk that night. If I am tied down with the current work load on my business, then I do not schedule any time to learn something new.

The same problem applies to walking my dog. Our family dog has had the privilege of spending a lot of time with two young children, who tire him out constantly. However I would like to give my dog more ‘big person’ time rather than playing with the children constantly.

The solution: Multi-tasking

When I sat down and considered my schedule, I realized that most days I am able to achieve one of the three things on my list. I went for a walk, I played with my dog or I educated myself on something new. I was able to achieve only one of my three goals. Therefore, I decided to multi-task these personal development goals in my life. I sorted out ways to educate myself differently as compared to the way I had been doing so previously. I looked at the challenges that had restricted me from regularly walking or exercising, and I overcame those as well.
Now my daily task is to go for a walk together with my dog and my iPod and achieve all the three things on my list, all at once. Everything that you want to do can be achieved if you:

  • Make it a priority
  • Overcome the challenges that stop you.

When it comes to education we are spoilt in this digital era that we live in. Everything that I have learned about doing business online has been through free audio podcasts that I subscribe to and regularly listen to. Instead of loading your iPod with just music, try to grab something similar to this.

If something that I wish to learn is in written format, I am sure I can find an eBook version of it that I can take with me anywhere that I go. If you too have obstacles around the personal development goals in your life that you are simply not achieving, find these obstacles and overcome them. Take up the challenges and you will find a way.
